The Flaming Lips two nights in a row with my fiance and our fabulous friends Dan and Ginny. They played the song, "Do you Realize?" and the lyrics really hit home with me -

For weeks I had the lyrics, "Do You Realize - that everyone you know someday will die..." running around in my head. I had never thought of death in those terms. Of course I thought of death and realized it was part of life, but not in relation to everyone I know in my life. The song in my head served as a reminder to me to make the most of every day, enjoy the good times, and treasure every moment with my friends and family.
But, who am I kidding? Like the Flaming Lips sang, "It's hard to make the good times last" and it's also hard to enjoy every bit of the good times. Daily life distracts you and brings all those struggles and obstacles that make it hard to really make every moment last. Instead you are just waiting for the day to end, or the month to end, etc...
Anyway, I know everyone has had thoughts like: "How will I ever survive without so and so?" or "I won't be able to live if this person were to die". I think them too, I know those thoughts well.
I also know grief well as I've just lost one of those "someones" in my life. This "someone" is my brother, Geoff. He was a very special person and I miss him terribly.
I wanted to post the lyrics to this very special and moving song to all my friends and family. To let them all know how much I love them and to somehow (I'm not sure how) help them let go of some of their fears of death. To listen to this song and tell all their "someones" that they love them. Love is all there is....
