My Valentine
On a hike in Muir Woods

It's hard to stay silent
when you've met the man of your dreams
Nice, sensitive, compassionate and smart
it was true love right from the start
But soon we found out even though it was great,
the timing was wrong and we needed a break
That was a hard thing to make stick
because we just seemed to click
We remained friends and said
we would wait and see what the future brings
I think I knew deep down
that his love would come back around
After a several month break
We decided to stop the hurry up and wait
This time around the timing was right
and suddenly my future was warm and bright
We took our love public
and watched it bloom
Now our love is better than ever
and I only hope it lasts forever
Couples meeting at work is on the riseMy boyfriend just sent me a link to
an article about couples that meet at work.
I said, "That's Us!" - we met at work and we're dating.
The article states that 1/3 of the people that responded to a survey said they dated someone they worked with.
My boyfriend then pointed out that the article states 40% of those couples who met at work ended up getting married.
Is my boyfriend trying to tell me something?
Blogging in Bed
Whenever I have a block of time that is somewhat free - I go through this little number in my head. "What should I do? What should I do?" It seems like every time this happens, similar things come up. My head says "Do the Dishes" and I say "blech!" It is amazing how many dishes I accumulate with just myself and occasionally Bret and Marya. I can't wait for a dishwasher!
Here is a list of other items that seem to make their way into my head whenever I have a free block of time and I'm not sure what to do with it:
- Upload some pics to Flickr. This is an easy, fun activity that I have actually been trying to do more of lately.
- Call or email a friend. Ok, time for a confession. I am a total dork when it comes to making lists. Every Friday night I make a to do list for the weekend. Then sometimes within the weekend, I'll make another list. I am obssessed with making lists. Oh my God, I'm making one right now!!
Anyway, I started to realize that I waste A LOT of paper making lists. So, I bought a white board. On my white board I keep a list of important things to do for the week. This week it has things like "tax appointment", "send baby gift to my friends", "thank you note to so and so", etc... Then I have two areas on the white board where I keep lists of people I need to call and email. Either because they have called or written me, it's been a while and I've been thinking about them or it's some special occasion. I feel as though at any one time, there are always at least 3 people on my call list.
- If I have longer than an hour, I might make a list and prioritize.
- Blog - If you are reading this, you know as well as I do that this rarely happens. I always think of these cool things to blog about and then when I have the time, I never select to Blog. Sometimes I sit down and start to write an entry and decide it's crap so I close the window and don't come back for a while. What usually ends up happeing is that I will decide to blog and then I'll start reading tons of other blogs instead. Sometimes I tell myself it's for inspiration. The fact is, it's almost the opposite of inspiring. I read these blogs and get so amazed with what these people write about and how creative their sites look, that I decide to never blog again.
- Read Mommy Blogs - Maybe the title of this post should have been, Confessions. I have been totally addicted to reading mommy blogs lately. My favorite blog ever is Dooce. I have been reading her daily for about two years now. She is like my cup of coffee in the mornings. I turn on my computer, check my email to see if anything urgent needs attention, and then I read Dooce and check her daily picture. I'm a total lurker and haven't ever left any comments, but sometimes I read through some of them. In December she posted a list of other women that had helped her through the year and links to their blogs. I bookmarked them and have started reading some of them. Here are some of my favorites from the list (oh man, a list within a list!)
- Play with Charlotte York Goldencat- Up until I discovered the mommy blogs, this used to be the number one selection. Don't worry, Charlotte is far from neglected!
- Do nothing - this usually ends up turning into a nap. Sometimes I am able to nap, but other times I just lie there and run through other things that I should be doing.
- Read a book - I love reading. Since I've gotten rid of cable I've been reading a lot more. I just finished A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. I loved it! If I still had cable the TV would have been on while the list was going through my head and I would be hooked in front of the TV watching old Cosby and Roseann reruns on Nick at Nite.
It looks like the blog won for this free block of time. I was actually going to write about how I've been reading all these mommy blogs and I feel like I need a baby in order to have something to write about on my blog. Maybe I don't...
