Martha makes it look so easy
Bret and his brother Todd are doing some work on our house today so I thought I would do my part by making some cookies. I decided to make three different kinds and distribute little cookie packages to our tennants while I was over there. I was so excited about being a little cookie deliverer.
Then I started making the cookies. The first challenge is that I don't have one of those
cool mixers. I started mixing the first batch of cookies and cookie dough was flying all over the kitchen. It was at this point that I considered going to the bakery and just buying cookies, and it was only my first batch out of three. MEP!!
The next challenge came after my first set of cookies was in the oven and I started on making the next round of dough. I only have TWO mixing bowls...I had to wash and dry everything in order to start the next batch. If I had
these cool bowls I wouldn't have had to do that. Maybe I should get married so I can get all this cool kitchen stuff.
Martha didn't mention what a work out making cookies is. I can barely type with my right arm right now. Mixing all of that dough is hard work. Not to mention how hot it is in the kitchen with the oven on. I kept picturing myself later in life with my children, making them cookies. Then I thought, yeah right... like I'll have 4 extra hours on a Sunday afternoon to make cookies.
Now that all the mixing is over and I'm in the baking stage, it is more fun. Except for the fact that my cookies all merged together and they aren't shaped in pretty circles. I need to remember all this next time I think I want to make cookies. I don't know if this is all that fun. And why did I think making cookies would be a good idea when I'm on a diet?? I've eaten enough cookie dough to equal like 10 cookies.
Anyone want some cookies?
They're not flies, they're termites!!
The scary flies that keep showing up all over my house are actually termites. Yuck!! I notified my landlord this morning and he should be coming by soon to investigate. I told him I have three in a plastic bag for him to examine. He was thrilled about this. It's a little freaky to keep seeing these bugs all over my house, but at least they aren't dangerous.
Queen of the Flies
I just got back from a wonderful weekend visit with Michele. More to come on that later. I wasn't planning on blogging tonight, I was actually planning on being sound asleep right now. Curled up with Charlotte all snug in my bed. While I'm waiting for my sleeping pills (all natural of course) to kick in, I'll write about the chain of events that are keeping me from sleep.
I left Orange County at 3:45 this afternoon. I made it home just in time for
Six Feet Under (the latest HBO substitue for Sex and the City). Mar came out to the carport right away to greet me and we had 15 minutes to catch up on our weekends before the show started. We enjoyed the show as well as the two after it. (
Entourage and
Da Ali G Show)
After Mar and Chapin left for the evening; Charlotte and I were upstairs getting ready to settle in when we heard a loud crash downstairs. It was startling because usually Charlotte is the one making the loud crash noises. I ran downtstairs and discovered my toiletry bag, which was sitting on the bathroom counter left open from getting back from my trip, was now in the toilet upside down.
Lovely....
I picked up some of the mess but decided to leave the rest for the morning and went back upstairs. Charlotte had hid under the bed when the crash happened, so I looked over the side of the bed to tell her it was ok. As I was peering over I noticed there were tons of flies crawling around the floor on the other side of my bed under the window. I looked closer and saw they were the type of fly with the long wings and small body. It totally grossed me out so I got the vacuum and cleaned the whole area.
I felt like a mad crazy women. I started pulling all the stuff out from under my bed to see if there was a decaying animal that the cats had brought in the house that hatched maggots. I took the trash out and looked in the litter box trying to find the root of this problem. My poor neighbors were probably wondering why I was vacuuming my house at 11:30 at night. I even called one of them over to look at the fly so she could help me identify it tomorrow if necessary.
I found a few flies downstairs, but I think/HOPE they are gone for the most part. I called Bret and he assured me that the flies wouldn't harm me and they would quickly die off. Flies don't live long. That's reassuring.
I still want to know how they got here and if there are more coming. Bret thought it made sense that they hatched while I was gone for the weekend. As if the whole thing wouldn't have happened if I was around. Hmmmm.... For now I will try to forget the whole thing ever happened until morning when I wake up and see my vacuum cleaner and wonder what it's doing upstairs.
Which one is real?

Originally uploaded by Bend it like Geoff. My brother got a new dog. Her name is Sasha. She is part wolf. Whenever I talk to him on the phone I can hear her biting or barking in the background. She kinda looks like Charlotte....or does she look more like Chapin?

The Oregon Trail
We just got back from our Oregon Coast bike tour. It was awesome up until the part where I got the flu and we had to come home early. Major bummer. The good news was that I got sick at the end of the trip and not at the beginning and just Bret and I left early. Here are some pictures from our adventure. I will have more pictures and stories to share over the next few days.
Here we all are at the start of the trip along the Oregon coast. I love this picture because it has the Bob Trailer in front. Our group consisted of 9 people, 9 bikes, 4 tents, camping essentials, and 5 Bob Trailers. As you can see we had the most perfect weather. It was usually foggy and cool in the morning which was nice during the tough hill climbs.
This is the view of the coast that our group is blocking in the picture above. We had the most wonderfully fun downhill after this picture was taken. On the right is my my bike with my "MEP" horn. I often wished I was that cat sitting there on the handlebars enjoying the view. Especially when that padded seat started giving me saddle sores. I always thought "saddle sore" was a term used to describe a sore butt. Boy was I wrong, they are actual sores!! Sorry, no pictures of that. I ended up ditching that padded seat.
Stuff, Stuff, Stuff
When we pulled in to a destination, our stuff would take over entire parking lots. I loved capturing these moments.
The bus that took us to the beach arrived and the driver got out and saw our stuff and said, "I guess I drove the wrong bus today." We ended up taking up the back 6 rows of the bus with all our stuff. Thank goodness there weren't too many people on the bus.
This is my bike and Bret's bike chilling out together. It's a good view of my kitty/"MEP" horn as well.
