Mulder has been possessed by Aliens
I stopped to talk to my neighbor with the pissed off cat the other day and she had some disconcerting news. Apparently Mulder has not stopped hissing and growling. What we thought was a one time occurance with Chapin has turned into a constant battle. Our poor neighbor has to walk around banging things against her legs to make sure he doesn't jump out and attack her legs or ankles. She has to sleep with a squirt bottle because he starts growling at her in the middle of the night. We peeked in the house at him and he was sitting near the door growling. It appeared to get worse at the sound of our neighbor's voice. I don't think I would be able to handle this type of house arrest. He doesn't have front claws, but he still has teeth!!
Marya did some research online and discovered that cats sometimes react this way towards a cat they are familar with after they have been attacked by another cat. If a dramatic event occurs, they will lash out at their sibling. We witnesses this after our kittens were fixed. We went to pick them up at the vet and Charlotte was shaking and scared. We thought she would be comforted by her brother, so we held Chapin close to her face so they could kiss and love each other. Instead Charlotte hissed and gave him the paw.
The strange thing about Mulder is that he is taking it out on his owner, not another cat. I guess in this case there is no other cat to take it out on. This is why having two cats is a good thing!! Maybe this is why you shouldn't name your cat after someone that looks into alien cases for a living. I'm glad my cat is named after
Charlotte from Sex and the City because if she were to take on qualities of her name sake the worse that could happen is that she would have a shoe addiction.
Wild Animal Discovery
Every time I think of something to write about on my blog, it's about my cats. Because I didn't want to only write about the cats, it's been a month since I've written. I can't take it any longer. The only thing I really have to write about is the cats. People are going to start to think of me as "Kristin Cat Lady". My brother already calls me this because I took some pictures of them to his wedding to show my relatives. At least I didn't have a brag book. I was going to make a cute little brag book, but Marya stopped me. I've decided I don't really care if people think of me as a cat lady. I love my cats and I'm proud of it!
This is my favorite picture of them so far, it's currently my desktop background - Charlotte on the left, Chapin on the right. I won't even tell you how many pictures I've taken of them.
So, today we had Wild Animal Discovery right in our front yard. One of our neighbors has a cat named Moulder. He is an inside cat who is allowed in the front patio every now and again. He never wanders too far. Our neighbor has fallen in love with our kittens as well so she lets them in her house to play with Moulder. I was leaving to go grocery shopping and I stopped to talk to her for a few minutes while Moulder was in his usual outside location - 3 feet from the front door. She was telling me how Charlotte and Moulder were cuddling and being cute together a few minutes earlier. Maybe a little love affair has begun. Although as a parent, I don't approve of their dating as he is much older than her.
The next thing we know, we hear this hisssing noise. I assumed it was Charlotte because I've never heard Chapin hiss. Whenever Charlotte and Chapin are play fighting we always hear Charlotte hiss and make noises, but never Chapin. We were beginning to think he couldn't hiss and it was more of a girl cat thang. HA! We were wrong. Chapin started hissing rapidly. Maybe he was jealous of his sister hanging out with someone other than him. Maybe he was pissed off that this older man was hitting on his sister. Whatever the case, he was mad!
Moulder didn't seem to notice too much and kept walking closer to Chapin the hissing, pissed off snake cat. Moulder is a very mellow and LARGE cat. I didn't want to see who would win this fight. Moulder is larger but he also doesn't have any claws. I scared Chapin away and Moulder started walking back towards his front door. Our neighbor started speaking to Moulder and the next thing we knew, the hair on his back was sticking up, his ears were back and he started hissing and making this strange gutteral growl. He had a scary look in his eyes and his owner and I were scared. We're not sure why he didn't hiss back to Chapin a few seconds earlier, but now he was mad and letting us know about it. She got him in the house and went inside and then I heard this shriek. Apparently he had lept at her. She yelled out that she was ok and an hour later it seems Moulder is back to normal.
I don't know if the kittens - who are really more like teenagers now - will be invited back to Moulder's house again.
